Clinton County Historical Society
Mission:
The Mission of the Clinton County Historical Society is to encourage community involvement in the preservation, education and promotion of Clinton County history and genealogy for the benefit of all people for present and future generations.
Governance:
A nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the Society was chartered in 1948 and is governed by a Board of Trustees.
History Center:
Rombach Place Museum, 149 E. Locust Street, Wilmington, serves as a History Center and touring museum. The History Center includes a genealogy/history research library; manuscripts and photographic archives; adult and children's educational programs; historic structure and artifact research materials; meeting facility and a repository for the Society's collection.
Rombach Place Museum:
Rombach Place Museum, located at 149 E. Locust Street in Wilmington, is an 1835 Greek Revival Mansion.
Once the home of General James W. Denver (for whom Denver, Colorado was named), this museum reflects the
family's colorful history, as well as Clinton County's history. Also on display is the largest collection of paintings,
drawing and sculptures by internationlly know Quaker artist and sculptur Eli Harvey (1860-1957). See Curator's Corner
for special exhibits and community presentations.
Sara Rose Museum:
Located at 149 W. Elm Street in Sabina, the Sara Rose Museum is an elegant 1896 Queen Anne home, reflecting one
family's livestyle during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Funding:
The Society received funding through membership, annual giving, donations, special events and grants.
Hours:
Office - is open on Tuesdays by appointment, and Wednesdays through Fridays from 9:00 to 11:30 and 12:30 to 4:00.
Rombach Place Museum Tours - Wednesdays through Fridays 1:00 - 4:00; and by appointment.
Sara Rose Museum - open by appointment only (May through October)
During January and February, Rombach Place Museum and the Research Library are closed. The office remains open.
Admission:
There is a $5 admission charge for non-members fourteen and older.
Handicapped Accessible:
The Clinton County History Center and Rombach Place Museumare handicapped accessible. The Sara Rose Museum is not handicapped accessible.
